When Do Kittens Lose Their First Teeth

By the time a kitten hits about 6 months old she usually has all 30 of her adult teeth.

When do kittens lose their first teeth. The incisors are followed by adult molar premolar and canine teeth. Most kittens lose their baby teeth between the ages of 6 and 9 months. The adult incisor teeth are the first to come in around 4 months. Kittens are born without visible teeth.

By four months of age all of their 26 primary teeth should be visible. Most of us acquire our kittens around 10 to 12 weeks of age or even a bit older. By this time the majority of the permanent teeth should have erupted provided there are no complications. The kitten teething process is completewhen all the permanent adult teeth are in place.

Around 4 7 months of age permanent adult teeth will start replacing the baby teeth. By the time a kitten reaches six to seven months all of their 30 permanent teeth should have erupted. A kitten generally starts losing teeth at 3 months around the time her adult incisors begin to slowly grow in. However this is not a hard and fast rule.

Around three weeks of age their kitten teeth will begin to erupt. You may never even see the teeth as your kitten loses them as they are often lost during mealtime or through play. Between 4 and 6 months the baby canines premolars and molars are replaced by adult teeth. These teeth are all deciduous also called baby or milk teeth.

After going through the first and second phase of kitten teething the whole teething period ends typically when the kittens are about six to seven months old. By this time cats have 30 permanent usually healthy adult cat teeth. Although the timing varies between animals as much as it does among humans the average kitten will have lost all her baby teeth by between 6 and 9 months old. Cats begin losing their baby teeth at around 12 weeks or 3 months.

Some kittens may lose their baby teeth earlier and some may lag behind a bit. This is when true teething problems appear if you see your kitten losing teeth at around 12 weeks old don t worry it s normal. If your kitten has all her adult teeth and all four molars she is likely at least 7 months old. Long before their first birthday your growing kitten should have 30 permanent teeth.

At around 2 weeks of age the little incisors at the front of the mouth begin to show through the gums. Kittens are born without teeth. Kittens start losing their baby teeth around 9 weeks of age and from that time until their adult teeth are fully grown in at 5 to 6 months you can count on lots of chewing action.
