Labrador Age Dog Years

My 12 5 year old chocolate lab just had a second mass cell tumour removed 5 days ago and my vet called today to say although the removal was a success the lab confirms he has an aggressive cancer that will most likely if not already spread to his liver kidneys etc.
Labrador age dog years. All baby teeth are in. Larger breeds tend to live shorter lives for example a labrador may have a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years a great dane 8 to 10 years whilst a small terrier could be expected to live 14 to 16 years. All permanent teeth are in and are white and clean. Labrador genes automatically limit their lifespan 10 to 14 years old may not sound particularly old especially for a fit and healthy dog but there are a couple of factors that will automatically limit a lab s lifespan to some extent.
American hairless rat terrier. Although a recent study suggests that chocolate labs live shorter lives at 10 7 years than black and yellow labradors. The formula also nicely matches up the average life span of labrador retrievers 12 years with the worldwide lifetime expectancy of humans 70 years. At five months the same puppy is roughly the equivalent of a 10 year old child.
There are many factors that influence life span in labs. The general rule of thumb is that smaller dogs live longer than their larger counterparts. Teeth are duller and the back teeth may have some yellowing. Of course all those figures are generalisations but nevertheless the trends are accurate.
Teeth show more wear. Once your dog reaches 1 year old they are the equivalent of a 16 year old teen and asking for the keys to the car. It may surprise you as it did me to find out that the pet food companies classify a dog as young as seven years as senior. Clues to look for by 8 weeks.
The average labrador retriever life span is 12 to 12 5 years. These include diet healthcare and management and inherited diseases. So what about labs. Labrador retrievers as a breed have a life expectancy of around ten to twelve years.
So it is a little sad to think that when they reach age seven they are already considered to be entering the winter of their lives.
